Repertoire piece 3

Learn a capstone piece using scale, chord, reading, and phrasing skills.

Why this matters

Piece 3 is the capstone — combines reading, hand position, scale fluency, chord sense, and phrasing.

What you should be able to do

Perform a 24-bar piece with dynamics, phrase shape, and no full stops.

Estimated focus time: 3.5h

How to practice this on your piano today

  1. 1. Choose a slightly longer piece (24 bars) with more variety than pieces 1 and 2.
  2. 2. Identify which scales/arpeggios it uses — drill those for 5 minutes daily.
  3. 3. Map phrases. Mark in pencil where each phrase begins and ends.
  4. 4. Play each phrase 3 times slowly with full attention to shape.
  5. 5. Aim for a complete runthrough with dynamics, phrase shape, and no full stops.
