Weeks 11-12: repertoire and performance · repertoire
Repertoire piece 1
Learn a short piece that combines reading, pulse, and hand position.
Why this matters
Real pieces are the test of every skill so far. Piece 1 is short (16 bars), uses your reading + pulse + 5-finger position, and ends musically.
What you should be able to do
Perform a 16-bar beginner piece with steady pulse, 90% correct notes, and musical ending.
Estimated focus time: 3h
How to practice this on your piano today
- 1. Choose a beginner piece in a method book or online (e.g., 'Ode to Joy' main theme, 'Twinkle Twinkle' arrangement, or a simple Bartok First Lessons piece).
- 2. Map out: time signature, key, hand positions, any tricky measures.
- 3. Practice each hand alone first. Get it cleanly at slow tempo (60 BPM).
- 4. Combine hands at slow tempo. Increase by 10 BPM each session.
- 5. Aim for one performance-clean run with steady pulse, ≥90% correct notes, and a musical ending.
