The piano finger numbering

Both hands use the same convention: thumb = 1, index = 2, middle = 3, ring = 4, pinky = 5. Mirror image — both pinkies are 5, both thumbs are 1.

Every later lesson uses these. “LH 3” means “left-hand middle finger.” Burn the numbers in now and the next 60 lessons get noticeably easier.

And: hand shape

Make a relaxed claw — like you’re holding a small ball. Fingertips down, knuckles arched, no collapsed joints. Every 5trials we’ll pause for you to self-rate the hand you’re looking at.
