Weeks 5-6: reading and touch · technique
Two-note slurs
Drop into a note and release the second note lightly.
Why this matters
2-note slurs are everywhere in classical music — they shape phrases.
What you should be able to do
Play 10 two-note slur pairs with clear lean-release motion in both hands.
Estimated focus time: 1.5h
How to practice this on your piano today
- 1. Play C-D as a 'down-up' gesture: lean into C with a slight wrist drop, lift off D with a wrist rise.
- 2. The first note (C) should be slightly louder; the second note (D) softer and shorter.
- 3. Practice with C-D, D-E, E-F, F-G — 4 slurred pairs.
- 4. Apply to a melodic line: every 2 beats becomes a 'lean-release'.
- 5. Aim for clear lean-release motion in both hands.
